Posted by Spider-Pig on Fri Oct 2 17:19:08 2026, in response to Brooklyn, Bath, and Coney Island, posted by New Flyer #857 on Fri Oct 2 16:43:49 2026. The old West End ROW is intact in the block from 86th Street to Benson Avenue, between 18th Avenue and Bay 19th Street. It is aligned with the part of Bay 19th that runs from Benson to Shore Parkway. As for the other railroads: The old Sea Beach line's bridge over the Coney Island Creek is evidenced by a peninsula sticking out from the south bank of the creek next to the Jaguar/Land Rover dealer on Neptune Avenue. The SBK ROW along 37th Street is partly intact, but even where it isn't, the evidence is that the houses on 37th are on shallower lots than the buildings behind them along 38th. The Brighton Line still has the underpass that connected to the racetrack spur near Avenue X. It's also visible from the street at least in the winter, since there are no houses along East 15th and East 16th facing the ends of Avenue X. I'm not sure you are counting the final iteration of the Manhattan Beach Line where it ran along a shared embankment with the Brighton Line, where the remnants are the asymmetric layout of the embankment (longer bridge abutments on one side, the different placement of the old fences on either side) and the remnant of the Neck Road station, but the old ROW is intact where it curves off the Bay Ridge Line across East 17th and Avenue I. There's also an uneven property line on the north side of Neptune Avenue and Corbin Place is the old ROW. The Culver Line formerly extended to Norton's Point. This ROW is still partly intact between Mermaid and Surf Avenue's and within Sea Gate between Surf Avenue and Manhattan Avenue. The Canarsie Line can still be traced all the way down. |
