With those 2 giving the orders, it'll be done in 2030 at a mere 500% cost over estimate.My regen proposal won't end hot tunnels, but it would reduce the heat load and result in some reduction in station temps. Reducing the heat load would also reduce the amount of work done by the train's A/C compressors, which would be an additional increment of heat un-loading. How much all together? Maybe ask Mr Baumann or someone who works in NYCTA electrical engineering. It's gotta be a lot: the energy of around 800,000 pounds of train at 25 or 30 mph (them things are slooow) being burned off at every stop adds up. That's, uhh, around 1/10 of a megawatt-hour each stop, using a napkin and crayons estimate. |
