Posted by Steve B-8AVEXP on Tue Jul 14 15:38:03 2026, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for July 14, posted by irtredbirdr33 on Tue Jul 14 08:58:32 2026. 2000 - from the Book of First RunsDenver's first light rail extension, the 8.7-mile Southwest Corridor, opened between Broadway and Mineral Ave, in Littleton, running alongside the BNSF freight line. Five widely spaced stations also opened, including Littleton Downtown, built in an open cut known as the Littleton Depression that was completed in 1984 as part of an effort to eliminate grade crossings along Santa Fe Drive. They left room for a future transit line when the freight tracks were depressed. The old Denver and Rio Grande Littleton station house was incorporated into the new station as a waiting area with an espresso bar. It still has its original Littleton sign on the outside as well as a sign giving distances to Denver (10 miles) and Ogden, Utah (687 miles). They moved that depot south a few hundred yards from its original location directly across the tracks from the old Santa Fe station, which is still there and serves as an art gallery. |
