To get from the mainline IND tracks to the World's Fair station, the trains had to use the yard leads from Kew Gardens and the overpass over the Grand Central Parkway and then go through Jamaica Yard to the tracks along the nowadays Van Wyck Expressway right-of-way. That route is normally not in passenger service. Going through the yard, did they have to observe the strict, slow, yard speed limit, maybe 5-10 mph? Or did the trains not go through the yard itself but instead go over or around it?  Full Article |
