The move ... had to be done this way They could have done it like this: the out-of-service train could have proceeded Manhattan-bound over the switch to M track (as all the trains do now because of the GO), then have the t/o change ends, then proceed to Flushing. Advantages: 1) while the t/o is changing ends, the following train could platform at 74 and its passengers could make their transfers, instead of waiting at 82 for the OOS train to reverse. 2) once the t/o has changed ends, it's straight forward, no need to go slowly over the switch. I was actually surprised to hear that they did it the way you described. |
