This yard was adjacent to the IRT’s main car repair shop (147th Street). The shop buildings were closed around 1960 and IRT car repairs were transferred to 207th Street, where most A Division repairs are still done. About six tracks were retained for overnight train storage. The 148th Street station opened in May 1968. A large middle-income high-rise complex, Esplanade Gardens, was built atop the old repair shop site and the current 148th St. station. |
