Hmm. According to NYCSUBWAY.ORG, maps from 1968, 1969 and 1972 show rush hour RR's going to/from Chambers St with a dashed green line.

Was this service just a M train or did the RR's not run at all?

Trains 61 : It is nice to hear from you. I hope that all is well with the guild.

With the opening of the Chrystie Street Line in November 1967 individual colors were assigned to each subway line. The “”RR” was identified by a green line. Its Nassau Street variant , the “RJ” was colored red.

The “RJ” had a short life and was discontinued at the end of June 1968. Its replacement was a branch of the “RR” running between Chambers Street and 95th Street during the rush hours. It used the same green line as the Broadway “RR” but the list was dotted to indicate a part time or rush hour service.

The “M” was a separate service at this time identified by a blue line.

The 1972 map shows the “RR” to Chambers Street as a solid line although it continued to run only during rush hours.

The Diamond Jubilee Map was issued in June 1979. All subway routes would now have the same color corresponding to their main line of operation. The BMT Broadway trains; N,QB, RR would now be colored yellow. This would apply to the Chambers Street service as well. Double letters were discontinued in May, 1985 so thereafter the “RR” became the R”.

The Eastern Division Nassau Street services; J and M, would be colored brown.

The map issued on May 24, 1987 finally shows the Nassau Street “R” with the Brown Nassau Street color. This only lasted until November 1987 when the Nassau Street “R” was discontinued.

There was a period in where both the “M” Myrtle Av-Nassau St- West End Local and the “R” Myrtle Av-Nassau St- 4th Avenue Local were operating at the same time. But that is a story for another day.
