I rode one of them from 74th St. after transferring from an E or F train of R1-9 cars that I boarded at Fifth Avenue after leaving a driver education class on West 54th St. When the conductor announced the Willets Point-Shea Stadium stop as the home of the world champion Mets everyone cheered. Davey Johnson was the Baltimore Orioles player who made the final out and ironically enough he would manage the Mets to their next championship in 1986. |
