An interesting aspect of the Multis is that although the cabs were convertible from corner to full width (transverse) most of the time they were operated with the cabs transverse. I have an instruction sheet for the Multis but I don’t know whether it was issued by the BMT ot the B of T since the letterhead is missing. The instructions, however indicate that only the cab at the C/R position was to be kept transverse, but all other cabs were to be in the corner configuration because in the off side of the cabs there was a passenger seat. When I asked M/M about that he told me that “they” wanted the cabs to be kept transverse. I never did figure out who “they” who wanted the crews to violate the instructions were. When I was still working for the TA I came across a similar situation in which a supt told me that “they” told the supervisors to go easy on a particular operating rule. As a mgr myself, my take on something like that is that if “they” didn’t put it in writing, then “they” never said it. |
