If the Govt (aka local politicians) wanted it bad enough coupled with a public outcry for the line, the line would have been up and running by now. That never happened. Green and Triboro bus routes to the Rockaways seemed to work out as a replacement. However, A prime example of a politician wanting something bad enough that it became a crusade was Bloomburg's pet project of extending the #7 to Hudson Yars. He got what he wanted. Another example was then Gov Cuomo wanting an Airtrain to/from LaGuardia. Had he not been shamed out of office, some form of LaGuardia Airtrain would be up and running by now. Point being, the Govt calls all the shots with taxpayer funded projects. |
