At the north end of the station, the uptown platform is already dipping down lower than the downtown platform, in preparation for the uptown B/D to turn west and enter the lower level of 7 Avenue, and the Queens-bound M to head east and enter the lower level of 5 Avenue. Here's an uptown D leaving the station (already lower than the arriving downtown F). It will soon pass under the downtown F track on its way to 7 Avenue:
