Hi Mark: IIRC every token booth on the system had a large sign with detailed directions to the fair. None of these mentioned the crosstown service.


The crosstown line was not well known even to long time residents. Unless you lived in downtown Brooklyn you might not have known where Hoyt-Schmerhorn was. Whereas all the subway maps featured a bright blue line highlight the No. 7 train. Also the crosstown line did not go direct. You still had to transfer at Roosevelt Avenue to the 7 train.
