I actually rode with Bill that morning
There was some confusion going on,and the train that pulled out of Parsons was a GOH R30/30a set.
Bill said he was'drafted" into operating the outbound.

As I recall, that was literally one of the coldest nights of the year, and practically set a record for temperature drops.
The next day was so cold that some equipment couldn't make it out of lay up.
I'm sure Bill remembers that night like it was yesterday ,freezing his ass off in that cab!
