Oh yeah.That's what the intentions were. But for Older systems like Chicago,those cars were limited to the Yellow Line,since the CTA is IRT sized...and the Yellow Line is a former Railroad. The Boston MBTA RED Line is pretty much the same as the subway in NYC,just like Philly's Broad st subway. There were plenty of subways being planned And built at that time,but none of them liked our R44 subway car design too much(which is what Soac was, basically) The BART based there cars off the R40..while WMATA designed their cars to be Like our commuter equipment LIRR/PENN Central M1 cars. Atlanta toned down their cars to resemble less suburban fare,more transit oriented. |
