Amazing that they outlived the 4 car classes that came after them: R-38, R-40*, R-42 and R-44.

*-for the purposes of this discussion, I am listing Slants and Modifieds together.

They probably won't outlive the R-46, but still quite a run. Meanwhile, Miami is about to retire their original 1980s Budd cars (a little irony there) with less than 40 years of service. And LACMTA will soon retire their original A650 cars (built 1991-1993) that run on the Red B and Purple D lines.
