The original Lebanon Hospital was on Westchester Ave., not too far from the location in the picture. In 1946 the hospital moved to its present location at Grand Concourse and Mt. Eden Ave. as Bronx-Lebanon.An interesting subway postscript to the "new" hospital is that its basements directly abut the IND subway tunnel, which a couple of hundred feet north of the Central Supply unit and dispensary, goes over the Cross Bronx Expressway on a bridge with the Concourse without ever seeing daylight! I believe the 174-175 St. Station, which is enclosed within this bridge, is the "highest" underground point in the entire system! |
