That connector track between Rockaway and Lower Montauk lines.The little league field (RGMVLL) is bordered by Montauk Lower, Rockaway ROW, and the single connector track between the two. That connecting track has two little spur tracks for freight cars to service the factories on Union Turnpike. Each track was about two car lengths long. When I was a little kid in the late 70's and early 80's I would go there and throw the switches on those spur tracks. There was an abandoned freight car on one of them. The switches should have been locked so no one got hurt. You can probably see remnants on google satellite. |
