Of course, by that time, most IRT equipment could and display route numbers, so I wonder why they didn't list them on maps... The IRT cars at that time only carried the route numbers on the front rollsigns. The side signs only had the route names. Sometime in the 1970s new route signs began to appear on the IRT cars which had route numbers and names on both the end and side signs. Does anyone know the exact date when this began?
