I’m not exactly sure if the Lo-0Vs actually “required” 2 C/Rs per train since the west side IRT trains that used Lo-Vs operated 9 car trains with 1 C/R. The reason for the practice remaining for so long was that the TA had to wait until all the platforms on the east side were lengthened to accommodate 10 full cars. With Hi-Vs and Lo-Vs the very end vestibule doors were usually past the platform end since they didn’t open up. I’m not sure of the exact year but originally 10 car trains on the IND also require 2 C/Rs but sometime in the mid 1950s that was changed to 1 C/R per 10 car train. |
