My first experience with horse racing was a special to Washington Park on Illinois Central's brand new High-Liners from Randolph Street for evening races. The return was a High-Liner shuttle to Harvey and a connection downtown on conventional equipment. The racetrack closed shortly after, so that may have been the only High-Liner visit to the track. Later racetrack trips were to Hawthorne and Sportsman's Park via Douglas Park "L" to Cicero Avenue and jitney-style cabs to the park. |
