The original Washington Park racetrack, 61st and S Cottage Grove was served by a spur along E. 61st St., on the south side of the street. When the racetrack was demolished, the spur was taken down, about 5-6 three-story apartments were built along 61st.....they are all still standing in 2020.The Homewood, IL Washington Park racetrack eventually was served by two spurs....one from the track going to the quarry and another on the north side of the track from Harvey, IL. There are a few catenary support still standing along Center St. I vaguely remember my mother taking to the track riding those ten-car "SPECIALS." Not express, not locals, but "SPECIALS."
