The Type=2 roadbed common on IND main line routes added to the echoing sound of moving trains.

Unlike the BMT/IRT equipped with conventional track roadbeds, except in stations where Type-2 Track was used on Dual Contract routes and under river tubes, the entire IND was a loud place with almost any equipment.

The current widespread deployment of track embedded in concrete on BMT/IRT routes, including switches, increases train noise even with implementing noise abatement construction.
