The reason for using the steeplecab I cannot unfortunately answer, maybe someone else can.I do recall hearing traction motor hum on the trip late in the afternoon - someone said they were running under their own power then. Again, sorry for not having more details. I was 16 then and a new railfan - very new: I was still learning about R-numbers etc. I heard someone talking about an R-10 and had to ask what it was. I had only known them as post-war IND cars, and the IRT's Lo-V's* as "old IRT cars" which is how my Dad used to refer to both of them. *which I just missed in regular service, might have ridden them in '56 or '57 on the Lex local (maybe even a Hi-V once) but I don't remember. |
