On topic, I am surprised nobody has picked me up on the fare increase. Web reports are inconsistent about the date of her mother's death and her graduation from high school the next day. More favor 1950, but others say she was age 15 at graduation. If 1948, she graduated just before the fare increase. I am uncertain about trolley fare in June, 1950. I think there was period of time when the Board of Transportation was allowed to charge 8 cents on surface routes while the privates had to settle for 7 cents. By 1950 the surface fare could have been ten. Charts of subway fare increases don't always reflect surface (bus or trolley) rates.

At any rate, she was a walker. At least that is what she would have been called in some schools. In Louisiana, a walker was said to ride Bus Two.
