Posted by Joe on Sat Sep 19 10:39:02 2020 Apparently, Ruth grew up as a member of the East Midwood Jewish Center on Ocean Avenue. Age 15 (1948?), she graduated from James Madison HS on Bedford Avenue, near Avenue P about a mile south of the synagogue. Reports are that the family lived in Flatbush. Buses replaced the Ocean Avenue trolleys in 1951, so it is possible she rode the fast 8000's on Ocean Avenue. Or are there other transit routes she may have traveled before she left for Cornell University?--- She may have graduated from James Madison just before the nickel fare became 7 or 8 cents on trolleys. |
