Union Square is often overlooked but it is one of the busiest stations on the system. In fact it was fourth out of 424 stations in number of passengers served in 2019. Only 34th St.-6th Ave, Grand Central-42nd St, and Times Square-42nd St. served more. I used it many times in my days attending Stuyvesant High School transferring to and from the Lousy Local as we called it. The ugly old Standards disappeared in the famous summer of 1969 and were replaced by former IND R1-9 cars which somehow looked out of place there.
