The way I understand it, only a PRR MP-51 could be used as an operating car west of Journal Sq because of the cab signaling. In the unlikely even that a train of Ks or MP51s was needed for another service either car type could be used on the head end. I seem to recall reading some where that not all the prewar red Newark extension cars were PRR MP38s but some were H&M (class D I think) and not cab signal equipped and unable to be used on operating ends west of J/Sq either.
