Tuscarora Almanac – July 8, 1931 – The Book of First Runs

The new cars for the INDependent Subway begin passenger service on the No. 4 Sea Beach Line of the BMT. The consist of the first train was 214-211-208-207-384-387-385-381 (All R-1’s). Testing continued until November 27 when the cars were returned to the IND via carfloat.

A new schedule goes into effect which means that all No. 5 Lexington Avenue trains will now use R-Type subway cars.

Shaker Heights Rapid Transit

PCC cars 59 and 65 are destroyed in a collision on the Shaker Height Rapid Transit System. Transport of New Jersey sells them two of the Newark City Subway PCC’s, nos. 3 and 27 as replacements.
