Dual contract station support columns were riveted assemblies, where during the building of the Independent Subway the great majority of nu-reinforced vertical columns were designed as a single entity. Rivets were used to tie in steel sections until today's break away nut and bolt
construction took hold in the late 50's and early 60's.

Second. With exception to a small section of the Independent subway in the vicinity of 135th Street, almost all Independent subway construction did not employ 45 degree angled brackets between vertical soldier columns and horizontal I beams of the tunnel ceiling.

Not to forget the use of Type II Track throughout the system's main line except at interlocks, and lay up tracks and not just in stations.
