Not a conspiracy:

There were many in NYC proper, especially those older who openly admitted they voted for Pataki to get back to Clinton for not issuing an Executive Order to force the 1994 Baseball season to be played out in full. For many of them, that 1994 season was looked at as possibly the last opportunity to see the Yankees make the World Series (and in fact, some of them did pass away before the Yankees finally did win it all two years later). Some also were PO'ed at Clinton for not doing it because to them it was their best chance for "Donnie Baseball" (Don Mattingly) to make it to a World Series after enduring the worst down period for the Yankees from 1982-'93 since the infamous 1965-'75 period that includes what is still the last losing season the Yankees have had in 1992. Mattingly would get to the postseason a year later in the strike-shortened 1995 season but his back gave out and he was forced to retire before the Yanks won it all the next year (the Yankees had the best record in the American League when the 1994 strike happened).

That is why this is NOT a conspiracy.
