Outside of car.

Overall dimension 52 23/32” W X 9 9/32” H X 5 11/16” D.

Sign roll in box before replacing with flip dot signs were truncated and had no strip maps and only had destinations for the stations that were in operation at the time of its decommissioning.

Roll in the box

Red line: Shady Grove, Grosvenor, Van Ness - UDC, Silver Spring, Wheaton.
Blue line: Huntinton, National Airport, Addison Road.
Orange line: Vienna, Balston, New Carrollton.
Green line: U Street, Annacostia.
Yellow line Mount Vernon - UDC, Gallery Place, National Airport.

The vertical lines and dot on the right between the strip map and station name are used to identify and correctly position station name in the sign box. The longer lines identify the station, the shorter line identifies approaching correct position, the dot correct position. Roll width 37".

Roll is not the one in the box.

When delivered from Rohr the sign rolls had all the terminal and short turn terminal stations, station name on line color field, with interior strip maps for the unbuilt system. They also had the temporary terminals to accommodate the building out of the syatem, some had interior strip maps and some did not. They also had selected stations that were not typicality used as terminals. Some were station names on line color field, most were white on black field, all displayed station name in place of the interior strip map. They even had a white on black field Dulles Airport. Early truncated versions had interior strip maps, later versions like the one in the box eliminated the interior strip map.
