What's funny is what the end result of this will be. The pre-Cuomo plan:-Expanding LIRR footprint to 3 tracks with the same visual profile (sloped ground for embankments). -Mineola rebuilt into a station with all tracks platforming, resulting in an ease of increasing express service to it. Post Cuomo: -LIRR visual profile will change from sloped ground to elevated with retaining wall or open cut with retaining wall - walls which, unlike dirt, attract graffiti. -Mineola becomes harder to stop at, meaning trains which do Hicksville-Jamaica are more flexibly routed. Bottom line: Their NIMBYism resulted in an uglier landscape that primarily benefits people east of the communities it passes through. Ha-ha! |
