One of our neighbors in South Bend had a standard shift car (might have been a '55-56-57 Chevy; it had rectangular vent windows) and I remember being fascinated by the way they shifted gears. I started badgering my father on why we couldn't have a car like that. He said his '50 Chevy had a standard shift, but after that, he bought only automatics. I was also intrigued by convertibles. When my father bought our '62 Rambler, I asked him right away if they were going to put a roof on it and he said yes. I was bummed. |
