The M/M only partially opened the door during warm weather for ventilation. Otherwise the door was kept closed. When the C/R opened up the rest of the train’s side doors, the M/M could activate a small lever in the back of the cab that would open the door completely. The M/M could then pull the door closed manually till it got to the point a bar could be attached to hold the door partially open. On battleship (manual door) Hi-Vs the M/M would have to activate the end door handle and open it the appropriate amount and then attach the bar. |
