Any experience or knowledge about cab heat throughout the earlier R types, from the beginning, R-1 on up?and pre-war BMT cars - any info on cab heat in the Standards & D-types, Multis? I'm assuming there was little or no heat in the IRT cabs - which were really not cabs, just the vestibules with the brake and controller stands covered and locked up when not in use? When the motorman's position in those cars was in use, the door was partially open (when I saw them) with that metal bar holding the door fast, so it could not open all the way - so there was no individual MUDC door cutoff cirucuits or mechanism when the specific vestibule was in active use by a motorman? So when the vestibule was an active t/o use, the operator would be exposed to any kind of inclement weather, due to the door being partially open? |
