The roll out of CBTC on the L line was to prove the technology was adaptable. The optical sensors were problematic and ill-conceived from the start. Beyond that I feel that the entire CBTC experiment is a colossal waste of money. On the 7 line, the massive investment resulted in a 2 TPH increase in capacity. Why, they went to a 3rd, incompatible system is beyond me. To put it into the context of your VCR/BETA example, they should wait for DVDs. |
