All rapid transit cars that were ordered around that time that were equipped with WABCO RT-2 brakes including SEPTA’s Broad St cars had the same sound. There were no unique mechanical arrangements but it was simply the state of the art of the product that WABCO was producing at the time. Interestingly the BMT Multis which predated the SMEES also had a similar sound. |
