Do It Once and all that.Supposedly that would require raising other bridges on the line. I don't understand all the dynamics of a freight train, but you'd think that a train moving at 25 mph could handle, say, a 3% grade totaling a whole thirty inches. Streetcars (e.g. in Boston) run up and down hills that are uncomfortable to walk, and have done so since WWI. Streetcares ain't freight trains, but Shirley a 30" rise could be handled over a hundred yards horizontal, especially considering that only a fraction of the train would be on the little incline. |
