Re: They're Raising The 11-Foot-8 Bridge

Two weeks is not a lot of time to do an 8"change.

I spend a day watching a bridge being moved laterally to allow the construction of a new bridge in its place. The moved bridge became a temporary shoe fly around the site of the replacement bridge. Mind you several months were spent building the temporary shoe fly roadway and the false work to support the moved bridge. The roadway was closed for 36 hours during the move.

I would bet they will do it all with the roadway.
I could be wrong.

I searched a little deeper on the story and from what I could glean the bridge will be lifted. 8 inches will require just under a 0.05 percent grade change over a distance of roughly 300' beyond both ends of the bridge.

Looking northeast from Duke Street to the 11 foot 8 bridge. The distance between the Duke Street grade crossing an the bridge abutment is around 390'. the distance to the grade crossing on the other end of the bridge is around 1,300'.
