There were still a lot of spare R-10's, and in some cases they could turn up on the "A" as well. To whit, here is an image from 1982 of them in the Rockaways, although they had seen better days before.R-10 #3183, 44th Street-Frank Avenue, IND Rockaway Line ("A" service), 5/1/1982. The first stage of scrapping (or car surge disposal) would begin a year later, with at least 60 cars being to retirement and for good.
