I’m not saying that compatibility with older equipment has to be infinite, but when 2 contracts are being ordered very close to each other, they should at least be fully compatible. To explain further, while I don’t think the NTTs should be compatible with R-46s or 68s, It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that the R-143s, 160s 179s and possibly even the R-211s be fully compatible. After that the first batch of NTTs should be old enough that they are ready for scrapping and the next generation of cars ready for design and production. On the other hand, upgrading for its own sake doesn’t make much sense if the so called “improved” product is nt actually improved at all and might not be worth the cost of a so called upgrading.
