There is no way an uptown Lex train (local or express) can enter the shuttle station. Those track connections were severed decades ago. The only track connection remaining at Grand Central is from the eastbound shuttle on track #1 which merges with the downtown #6 local track south of Grand Central. Similarly, there is no way a downtown Broadway train (local or express) can enter the shuttle station. The only track connection remaining at Times Square is from the westbound shuttle track #4 to the uptown #1 local track just beyond the shuttle station. Unlike the connection at Grand Central, which occurs deep in the tunnel out of sight, the connection at Times Square is completely visible, and many railfans find it intriguing, which is why so many are sad that it too will become out of sight after the construction. |
