I always refer to the T/O as MOTORMAN which is the title I had when I did the job. A CTA instructor I know told me that CTA changed their M/M title to Rapid Transit Operator after CTA went all OPTO since it was felt that the new title was more descriptive of the motorman’s duties once door operation was added. That could possibly be said of the NYCTA T/O position too since I expect that the actual C/R title will eventually be phased out and T/Os will alternate M/M and C/R duties depending on the direction of the trip which I believe is done in Canada. |
