Back when the R9's ran on the A and D it was easy for a platform conductor to open the doors on the center platform from outside the train while the train's conductor opened the doors on the other side, but it was much more difficult with newer cars, so they stopped using the platform. Part of the center platform is now used as a transfer corridor between the north and southbound #1 line. |
