Why I Needed A Paper Ticket (Re: Auto Train Question and Acela/NEC Questions)

Posted by Nilet on Tue Jul 9 18:27:21 2019, in response to Why Do I Need A Paper Ticket? (Re: Auto Train Question and Acela/NEC Questions), posted by Nilet on Mon Jun 24 21:14:44 2019.

Apparently, the reason I needed a paper ticket was due to an accident of Amtrak's reservation system and the way they put two people on separate reservations in the same roomette. Since the roomette wasn't on "my" reservation (despite me paying for it), the system wouldn't accept that I was travelling in it. Accordingly, they were forced to enter my ticket as a "manual fare adjustment" which in turn required a paper ticket. It didn't list my room number because it was a manual entry that the system didn't officially recognise as being attached to that room (not that this stopped me from getting checked in; I just needed to show them my ticket at the gate as we drove up).

Also, the "fare plan" appears to be a quasi-random string of four alphanumeric characters of no obvious meaning— except that the stub of an old Shore Line East ticket printed by Amtrak's printers onto Amtrak's ticket stock lists "fare plan: SLOW" which sounds like it might be a dig at something.
