NYT, November '67 reported daily chaos after Chrystie. At NY Div. meetings I remember hearing stories about unusual equipment showing up where it was not expected to operate, destination signs not matching a train's actual route, and of course the cardbord signs with terminals or destinations written in magic marker. I took a photo at Marcy Ave. June or July '68, of the front of an inbound R9, with "JJ" printed on a white background, and the route name/terminal box next to it, completely blank. |
