Re: [UPDATED PHOTOS] Archer Ave - First (J) Train In

Maybe 6-7 years ago, as I've been retired for almost 5.

A bulletin came out basically saying that "to reduce hand injuries.....", blah, blah, blah...…...all t/o's (and I believe c/r's too) had to wear gloves (only the ones issued to you).

You may not know that sometime before that they locked the cab seats on the R46's because they had some hand/finger injuries when the crews adjusted the cab seat. The only problem was it wasn't done (locked) for the benefit of most t/o's. Some seats were too close to the console (if you had long legs a problem), some seats were too low (even for me at 5"9') I had to strain my neck to look up, and all other combinations. Whatever position the seat was in when the guy in the barn locked it is where it stayed.

Why? Because managements philosophy on injuries is when any injury happens to one person, steps must be taken that this injury doesn't happen to anybody else ever again. And that goes for all injuries, especially lost time ones (Workman's Compensation). Sounds good, but with all the t/o's and c/r's we have injuries will occur. Then the suits downtown compare our injuries with those of other systems. That is unfair because of the disparity of t/o's and c/r's (if they have them).
