Most of the BMT el structures, especially in the Eastern lacked outside catwalks, which I suspect is the reason that the stop arms on the BMT were placed on the left side of the track as opposed to the right side like the IRT which did have catwalks. As late as 1969 when I was a M/M while many of the other eastern Div els received catwalks, the A Line to Lefferts, formerly BMT still lacked them. |
