Actually, the R-30 GOHs were different from the IRT redbirds. The IRT redbirds received either a NYAB Newtran brake system or a WABCO RT-2 brake package which replaced the variable load valves of SMEE equipment with the load sensor of RT-2 equipment and the ME42B brake valves with either a Newtran or an ME43 brake valve. The IRT GOHs also had an alternator installed to power the car body lights whereas the GOH R-30s retained the original timer to reverse the polarity. The IRT R-26s and 28s also had the H2CA drawheads on the #2 ends of the cars replaced by drawbars like the R-29s while the R-30s retained the couplers on the #2 ends.
