I once took out a tape measure and compared the NJT seat with the LIRR seat.

1/3rd the width of a LIRR 3-seat bench is the width of the NJT MLV seat cushion, which have a steel bar between them. It is also 2" shorter, despite both cars having the same seat pitch.

NJT seats suck.
